A protected area headquartered in Talgar: Tian Shan spruce, glaciers and rare wildlife.
The Almaty State Nature Reserve protects the central Trans-Ili Alatau including the Talgar massif. Its nature museum in Talgar is a good family starting point. Entering the reserve itself is only possible under its rules.
